The 'Quality Mince' podcast

Podpix260410
Eric Milligan and Peter Jones join Lesley in the Scotsman pod this week. Eric is the former Provost of Edinburgh and does not mince his words. He is a Labour man with strong opinions. Together with Peter and Lesley, the trio pull apart the anomalies of PR, the 'Clegg Bounce', and the 'Murphy Effect'.

It's straight talking with a big smile on its face. 30 minutes of good natured, intelligent political discussions for grown ups.

As the Feisty team sitting in a hotel room somewhere in the dunes of Denmark are wont to say....There are a variety of ways you can listen to this podcast, you can listen and subscribe here or iTunes or even listen by clicking the player below. Feedback, as ever, is appreciated and we really do read every email and comment. It would be really great to get some iTunes ratings, so if you could do the needful; back at Feisty Central, we would be grateful - thanks.

The podcast with "constitutional snogging" and the fans of "weak government".

Warning ! There are fireworks as Andy Myles joins the Scotsman podcast posse of Joyce McMillan, Peter MacMahon and Lesley Riddoch. Andy, as former Chief Exec of Scottish LibDems, is a man with opinions.  He is unhappy  with LibDem media coverage. He understands how coalition governments are negotiated; he's done it. He sees "weak government" as no bad thing. It's not the Andy Myles Show as the Scotsman regulars get wellied in.

Politics and personality

DSCF6192
I have now watched a number of debates, sat in hustings and been involved in producing a variety of political podcasts and...I'm bored. The average candidate is not very good at presenting to groups. Most lack the ability to connect with a room full of people. There is an awful lot of fear in eyes. A heavy reliance on a certain style of oratory and a desperate need to stay on message kill what little chance,  a gifted individual might have to break this mould.

And whose fault is it ? A cynical public is springloaded to heckle and deride all politicians, in fact or fantasy, as money grabbing insincere carpet baggers. So, who is going to be brave enough to want to jump in and have a go. I see a lot of people who want to try. The gap is that there is no-one is helping them hone the professional communication skills they are going to need. Party machines seem to select good party workers for candidates; not 'good with people' people. I think they are missing a trick. And we are being short changed.

Stone me ...it's Gene Hunt. Not really.

It's the Scotsman Podcast Number 9 from Lesley Riddoch and Feisty Productions. Just after the Tory manifesto launch and before the first Leaders' Debate, Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser joined George Kerevan, Scotsman columnist and aspirant SNP Westminster MP candidate in the pod. As you would expect; it was a fairly robust "discussion" and the topics range from "people power" to 'whatever happened to the Scottish General Election?'  File under "Big grown up political discussion with grown up contributors with some humour and straight talking".
