Mr McAvoy is one of the managers who helps our school. Gareth and Ashley asked him some questions about his job and he had to answer the infamous quick fire round of questions.
This Saturday 7 June at 1pm, the summer fete at Blairgowrie High School is being opened by Craig Brown, the former Scotland football manager. Liz gives us a quick run down of all the attractions - there are some surprises ! Click here to listen !
Ms Burke from the English Department knows that, unless you are Supergirl ( seen on the right); you could probably do with some revision help. So, she came into the podcast studios and recorded a few hints and tips that you might find useful when preparing for your exams. It's short, less than 5 minutes and packed with some useful pieces of advice. Let us know what you think. And we will record more ! The S4 Attainment evening is a big event for parents. Not everybody was able to get along. So as a service
to everyone who couldn't make it or anyone wants to relive the experience - here are a series of teachers talking through what the evening was all about. Ms Reynolds talks about the concept of the Attainment Evening and then we have teachers from the PE, English, Art and Physics Departments to explain what individual subjects did on the night. They also briefly comment on course choices. It's only a short 8 minutes podcast. Please give it a listen and let us know if we missed anything ! We are grateful for the vocal talent and help of each Department and Mr Devine as the Executive Producer. We would be very interested to hear any comments or ideas from parents for other subjects we can cover.
Blairgowrie is a rural community with lots of people living off the land one way or the other. Mr Pyott joined us in the pod for a chat about rural skills and explained a little about some of the land based courses. This is the first part of a two part interview. The second part will be about some of the hospitality courses. That's the plate bit of the title. This podcast is about farmers and stuff...the plant piece. Geddit ?
Liz Bridge from the Parent, Staff and Friends group dropped in to chat to us. She explains how this group was different to the old PTA and School Board. She also outlined the things they were up to , including BHS' version of X Factor; the Talent Show. There were a couple of things that she mentioned that were very important; 'Wish Lists' and 'Development Funds' which are available to everyone ! This is definitely a podcast every student will want to listen to !
Today is the final installment in the podcasts for parents. A number of teachers were kind enough to give their time and effort to making a series of small podcasts. The subject was how parents could support students in their academic efforts. The advice to date has been fairly simple. Not a single teacher has suggested bribery or chocolate. We would be really interested in some feedback as to how successful this series of podcasts have been for both parents and anyone else who has been listening. Please leave a comment or feedback below... we read them all !
And for today's advice...
Geography
Mr Kirkpatrick had some simple advice.
Business Studies
Alan Sugar wasn't available but his depute, Mr McMichael was.
Maths
This is a difficult subject for lots of people but Mr MacTavish explained the support experience from his perspective.
History
And finally... Mr Howie from the History Department was able to offer some practical suggestions that every parent could appreciate.
We were fortunate enough to get a number of teachers together to explain some things about their subjects. Today, Mr Pullar of Religious Studies and Philosophy joins us to explain his views on parents supporting students. Simple and straightforward, they are fairly straightforward and relatively inexpensive.
Physical Education
Mr Allison popped and recorded a brief message for both parents and anyone looking forward to exam success.
Modern Languages
This is a subject area where lots of people get wobbly. Happily, Ms Mackay is on hand to offer some words of wisdom.
This week, we are presenting a series of podcasts aimed at parents in which teachers outline how parents can support students. Teachers generously gave up their time for these recordings - thanks again. Next up is Mr Maxwell and his advice about Art success. Listen carefully and you may find the advice is not what you imagine it would be.
Science
After art, it was obvious that we needed to get the views of Science and Mr Rae did a fine job outlining the key steps of how to support your own scientist.
Modern Studies
Ms Young came along to give some thoughts about Modern Studies and especially the role of homework.
